Exactly what I needed at a very reasonable price., May 8, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Samsung NP-Q430-JS03US Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) I bought an ASUS UL30A-X5 for light *nix use a year ago and loved it. However, its performance was abysmal for my current work. I've been contemplating whether to buy the new Macbook Pro or this for quite some time, and I decided to go with this laptop.
Pros:
-Dollar for dollar, easily beats the Macbook Pro in specs.
-i5 CPU and nvidia optimus are what I need for my current work.
-Linux compatibility (specifically Ubuntu) is solid, except the optimus graphics but that's nvidia's fault currently.
-Even when plugged in and I'm doing intensive CPU and GPU work, it's still reasonably quiet. I have the power scheme in Win7 set to limit the CPU performance to 85% when plugged in, so this may be a factor.
-Wifi card (Broadcom) is much better than the Atheros cards I've used.
-Keyboard is very similar in feel and design to Macbook pro for those who care about it.
-Webcam is better quality than I expected.

ok but some nagging issues, July 24, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Samsung NP-Q430-JS03US Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) Was looking for an Apple alternative and it came down to this Samsung and the Toshiba Portege. The Portege had a waiting period due to its popularity and was lacking bluetooth so I went with the Samsung. It has a great appearance and feel to it - lots of metal, black aluminum top and brushed aluminum keyboard surround. The top of the lid looks great as long as you never touch it or have a complete lack of oils in your skin otherwise it shows every finger and palm print. As for the technical side, the i5 coupled with windows 7 has a fast start-up but not as fast as they claim. I am having trouble noticing any speed increase over my Sony which is 4 years old. The battery life has been great, but again I'm coming from a Sony which was on its 3rd battery and never lasted more than 30 minutes so the 4+ hours I'm getting now seem awesome. It took me the better part of 2 hours removing all of the free junk on the computer and then another couple hours loading my software. After... Read more

I especially like the fact that the there are not space between the keys so no debris can falling into them. However, the product do not come with the bluetooth function. The screen color is not as good as my Acer timeline X. The battery life is soso. Over, its a great product.
